Updated: Dec 4, 2025

Have you ever heard of Peso Pluma? He is a Mexican singer/songwriter known for his work in regional Mexican music. Growing up as a mixed Caribbean girl in Miami raised by grandparents, I was exposed to many types of music. Despite not being directly from a hispanic background, I grew up in the heart of foreigners. Hispanic music became a staple in my playlists, while the language was spoken all around me.

Moving back to Miami this year has thrown me right back into a cultural melting pot. I have always been surrounded by Puerto Rican and Cuban culture, but never took a chance on Mexican music. These past couple weeks, Mexican music has been practically the only thing I listen to. I may not fully understand what is being said, but I can truly feel the passion behind Mexican music.

I discovered Peso Pluma just two weeks ago and have since been nearly obsessed. The first song I came across was "La Patrulla" and decided to listen to his full "GÉNESIS" album. "LUNA" and "NUEVA VIDA" have been on repeat for nearly a week straight. "Ella Baila Sola" is also an honorable mention! Mexican music will continue to be a staple in my playlist.
